A teenage boy was found dead just days after being wrongly blamed of taking the ashes of a dead infant during a break-in, a coroner's inquiry has heard.

Heartbreaking Discovery

Kai Lloyd's parents found his remains in his room at his Flintshire home on 19 November 2021.

False Accusations Begin

The inquest heard how his mother got a communication on November 8th, 2021 via social media, from a woman inquiring if her son was her child. The communication stated: "Inform him thanks for burgling my apartment."

In a statement presented to the proceedings, the mother said the woman had been in the news, asserting her baby's ashes had been taken in a break-in - a claim which was false.

Police Investigation

An official inquiry from police later determined the supposed break-in victim had "provided false information" and "evidence shows that the property was not stolen in the first place".

News coverage about the supposed stolen remains generated social media comments, and although the teenager was not named in the posts, his mother said individuals "understood it was him".

The "online posts were extremely distressing", she said.

Emotional Wellbeing Effect

She explained that Kai had been identified with mild ADHD, and as part of that disorder, other peoples' views genuinely were important to him.

"It would have hurt him deeply," she commented, "particularly when this was not true".

The teenager was detained at his residence, but no evidence was found. He was taken to a police station and later freed pending further inquiry.

Authorities said they would be in contact, the hearing learned, but had not contacted the relatives by the moment of his death.

Isolation and Worry

His mother said her son "withdrew into himself" after the arrest and "would keep asking me whether I had heard anything from the police", because his ADHD meant sometimes "certain periods could feel like much longer".

When she spoke to him about the supposed burglary, she said her child informed her he had entered the house because the resident who resided there had said he could utilize the bathroom anytime he needed, but denied removing anything.

Digital Bullying

In a combined testimony between her and her spouse, the mother said her son was being bullied digitally after the allegations.

The inquest heard that one 19-year-old urged Kai to kill himself.

She had no worries on the night before he passed away, describing how she had listened to him "laughing and joking".

She described him as a "caring, loving" young man, and said her "relatives is completely shattered".

He had been "obviously concealing his concerns", she stated, noting that he could not stand to have anyone "think bad of him".

School Reaction

The inquest heard from educational staff at the local High School.

On 8 November, she "overheard some boys talking that Kai had been arrested and that was the initial I heard".

"He informed me... he'd was innocent," she continued.

After the discussion, the educator said she rang Kai's family landline and provided a message saying she had communicated to the student about the accusations.

The court heard his family said they never receive that message.

Formal Finding

Senior investigator told the hearing he would wait for documents regarding what improvements had been made to handling individuals with the condition, before determining whether he should make a avoidance of subsequent deaths report.

Providing a descriptive finding, he stated: "Around November 8th, 2021, unsubstantiated accusations were made against the teenager, a 14-year-old child.

"Probably falsehoods were subsequently embellished and amplified through the medium of social media.

"During November 11th, he was interviewed by the authorities and after his questioning he was freed while inquiries continued."

The official concluded: "Exists no evidence that the acts or omissions of any organization led to or contributed to his death and although it was the result of a self-inflicted act it is not possible to discern his purpose."
