One ranking policeman that leaped to the aid of a fellow officer who was ambushed by a knifeman was granted the King's Commendation for Valor.

Sgt Tim Ansell grappled with 27-year-old Jacob Brown subsequent to he held a knife to the throat of his colleague Sgt Marc Foster.

Brown initiated the assault as the policemen and their third officer, PC Marcus Wolstencroft, were talking to a driver subsequent to a vehicle incident in Whalley Range in mid-2023.

Brown knifed and cut both Sgt Ansell and Sergeant Foster before PC Wolstencroft stunned him with a electric weapon.
